![]() Thousand Trails is a network of campgrounds that are situated in some of the most popular destinations in North America. They offer a variety of different types of camping to include RV sites, tent sites, and cabins at most their locations. Although a membership is not always needed to stay at a Thousand Trails, the membership can, if used enough, be the most cost effective way to enjoy the outdoors and explore different areas of the country. The membership levels vary depending on what each persons needs are. Before we started fulltime RVing, we used a Camping Pass to enjoy weekend getaways in our local zone. We also added the Trails Collection to our camping pass that enabled us to enjoy the local Trails Collection Park at Lake Tahoe before hitting the road. What are the locations like? What are the Thousand Trails Campgrounds like? Well, we find that most fit our needs for the cost. Some are more "rustic" than others, but that is ok with us. We have seen in our travels that Thousand Trails is doing a lot of Property Improvements to get the parks back to where they once were. We have found in our research that some parks may not meet our needs during our travels. For us, having to be connected to the internet as digital nomads, we have to plan our stays to ensure we have things like usable AT&T internet. This can make trip planning a chore. So, to help ourselves and others, we decided to break down each Thousand Trails location based on needs that we find important. We also use tools like RV Trip Wizard to plan our routes and read reviews of each location. We find it is important though, when reading reviews, to understand that everyone's expectations are different. Things like cell service is no way Thousand Trails responsibility. Also, some people prefer to be offline and do not mind stopping in at a clubhouse to hop on the wifi as needed.
We have been Fulltime since January of 2020 and Thousand Trails is our primary way that we can afford to do this lifestyle. We also use other Memberships as well. We feel Thousand Trails is, by far, the best campground membership for those on a budget. Our membership has pretty much payed for itself the first year on the road. The yearly dues we find to be very affordable and the math just works out. We always recommend that if you are thinking of joining Thousand Trails, maybe consider a Camping Pass. The RV dealership we purchased our RV from provided us a 1 year complimentary Zone Pass. This allowed us to do a test-run before becoming full members. If you are interested in a Thousand Trails Membership or Camping Pass, we recommend working with Britney Hoft. We met Britney while visiting a Thousand Trails campground in Texas. We had so many questions about our Basic Elite membership, and she walked us through our benefits and explained everything in a way that we could better understand. It truly can be overwhelming when you are trying to purchase or upgrade a membership. Every membership has it benefits depending on how you like to travel. Working with a Membership Specialist that can explain and recommend a package around your needs is vital.
